We have a work computer running windows 7. all the desktop icons changed to "e" there seems to be no shortcuts into anything.
When you double click on an icon it comes up with a box view down load history

Most of the time it's EXE file associations that are corrupted but if you ran a virus scan then maybe they're OK. But you might try the LNK fixes since the desktop links appear to be bad.
