Specs: Windows XP
DVD tray won't open except by a pin on my Dell inspiron 530s Slim desktop. Even then, no CD/DVD works. The whole tray won't slide but needs pushing to close.

✔ Best Answer
Either the unit has died, or the power connector has become loose. The operation of the tray and the playing of media can be independent of each other.

Did you damage the tray mechanism when it was extended?

I do not recall damaging the tray in any way. Of course my grandchildren do use it, but they are more careful than even I am. I am happy with the power aspect.

OK I'm an idiot. I have looked inside the PC and found that the internal power supply had become disconnected. Reconnected and it's now fine. Thanks for the suggestion.
