Desktop Crashing

Microsoft Windows xp professional w/sp2
July 14, 2010 at 08:53:34
Specs: Windows XP

My desktop is crashing since last Friday. It was normally working and all the sudden it began to crash. So since then, when the windows is reading in the beggining the computer crashes all the time.
Some random letters and blue columns appear on the screen; last night it worked fine under security mode.

First i thought it could be dirt (i didn't clean it for plus six months, so i decided to clean it today but everything is exacly the same).
Then i simple touched the connection to the videocard and the pc crashed again. :(

So, here is the log, i hope you could give me some ideas about this, i googled but i could'nt find anything related to it.
UI LCID=2070
TitleName=Microsoft Windows
DigPidRegPath=HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\DigitalProductId
ErrorText=A log of this error has been created.
HeaderText= The system has recovered from a serious error.

Thanks in advance.

"Then i simple touched the connection to the videocard and the pc crashed again"

Sounds like you might have some loose connections. After cleaning out the computer (blow it with a can of soap!), try CAREFULLY re-seating all cards and memory.

But the problem is that it began to crash on Friday and i cleaned the pc this morning.

I will see all the connections more carefully anyway.

Cards can "creep" out of their slots over time. Not saying your cleaning was the cause of the crash :)

Well there isn't anything out of the place.

Either is my graphic card begging for retirement or is the windows xp sp2 saying " i'm going slightly mad, please, make my grandson the new king because it rules".

So did you reseat everything, or just check visually?

Actually i did clean up the only thing i forgot, the videocard fan. But everything is the same, the pc only works on safe mode, keeps crashing all the time in normal mode, with funny letters on screen and blue columns.

Checked the memories positions too... nothing wrong.
It could be a memory problem, maybe i should perform a memtest ? not very convinced of this, though, they don't have a year yet.

Even in safe mode there are yellow things on screen, i bet it's something related to my video card. Just a wild guess, of course...

Lots of words there, but you're not answering my question. Did you reseat the cards, or just check them visually?

And yes, memtest is a good idea.
