So my friend bought this USB printer today, but he really needs to use to print stuff from Clipper, a DOS database. Tough, because I know DOS doesn't see USB devices (although I've seen some that do work with BIOS/driver tweaks).
RANT MODE ON:
So I get on the HP tech chat for a solution. Hopefully, I can buy a parallel cable to make it work (I haven't seen the printer, so I don't know if there's a connector). Here's our chat.
ME: hello
Melissa: Hello.
Melissa: Welcome to HP Total Care for DeskJet products.
Melissa: How may I help you today?
ME: I have an HP Deskjet 3550, does it have an LPT1 connector??
Melissa: Alright.
ME: Actually, my prob is that I need to use it with a DOS app. The printer only has USB which DOS can't see.
ME: What can I do??
Melissa: I am sorry to inform that we do not have the Parallel port on Desk jet 3550.
ME: ok, but is there another way I can use my DOS app (Clipper) with this printer??
Melissa: I am sorry . This printer does not have an option to print from Dos.So I come to you wise folks at this forum to ask how I can tweak this thing to work in DOS.
