Specs: Windows XP
I am upgrading my Inspirion XPS M140 from a 40 g IDE PATA to a 250 gig IDE PATA. After cloning the drive the system halts upon starting windows. It indicates a corupted drive but the CMOS / Bios still sees the original drive. I am assuming this to be the cause but there is no option for changing the drive in the Bios. Any thoughts? research indicated i could go up to a 250 gig drive.

Make sure the drive is set to Master, best if you have only one drive connected, though later on you can have both connected as Master, even with 2 operating systems installed.

Are you sure the drive is Active?

How did you go about cloning the drive?

"research indicated i could go up to a 250 gig drive"

What kind of research would that be? If your system is 48-bit LBA compliant, there is no limit on HDD size. If it only supports 28-bit LBA, 137GB is the max.
