Hi, i have a user using a 64mb dell usb key on her windows 98 system. She has problems with opening documents she has stored on the keey. When she tries to open a great deal of the document they crash her machine.
I took from her and tried it on my machine also running windows 98 and it does the same.
I reckon the key itself may be damaged but wanted to know if there was any way of proving this or recovering the data already stored on the key?

Just a crap shoot here, but if you know someone else with a newer OS (XP or 2000), see if they can open it. Is it possible that a newer technology part could have complications with older OS system? Worth a shot anyways.

If it ain't broke upgrade it!!!

By "key" do you mean a USB flash drive? If so, most of those devices require drivers when used with Windows 98. You may want to try it on a Win 2000 or XP machine (per angrymen2001's advice), especially because most USB storage devices like that don't require drivers for the new PC operating systems. If you need the Win 98 drivers, they should be available as downloads from the manufacturer's website.

As noted there is a problem with older versions of Win98 before Win98SE. They sometimes had problems working with USB devices. As Daniel mentioned get a newer USB driver for W98 and try again. I believe you will find that a W2K or WinXP system won't have a problem reading the drive. What system did she use to save them originaly?
