Dell SX270 dvi video not working

June 28, 2011 at 22:25:50
Specs: Windows XP, Pentium 4
I have a Dell SX270 with onboard DVI video. I have it hooked up to my HDTV with a DVI cable. When I turn the computer on I see the BIOS screen, and then the Windows XP loading screen, but right before the Welcome screen, the tv goes black. I know the computer is still booting up because I hear the Windows sounds, etc.

I have tried the computer connected to a flat panel with a DVI to VGA connector, and it works fine.

Any help or suggestions would be helpful.

The problem may be the screen resolutiuon setting. What's the native resolution for your HDTV? Try tapping the F8 key at startup & select "Enable VGA mode" from the menu. If that gets you into Windows, change the screen resolution to the HDTV's native setting.

Thank you for the F8 tip... it worked, sort of :-) I can now see video on the DVI output to my LCD, but it only allows me to select 640x480 at 32bit. I am using the most current driver from Dell. Unfortunately, I cannot use the most recent driver from Intel because when I try to install it the installer tells me that I need a specially configured driver from Dell.
