Hi,
Just about an hour ago, the side hinge of my screen began to show the same symptoms that I had witnessed with my previous Dell Laptop. While only in the early stage, I am fearful that the same will occur in the end, which is depicted in the following of my previous Dell Laptop:

Any & all help will be greatly appreciated.
Thank You & Warmest Regards.

How about strengthening the area with some epoxy? Try some JB Weld.
I wonder what'll happen if I do this ?

Hello,
My name is Richard; I work for Dell's Online Community Outreach group here in Round Rock, Texas. I came across your question and wanted to comment on the cracks I observed fro your photos. This system appears to be an Inspiron 1100, which I have worked on quit a bit along with other Dell portables. I notice that from the front view photo that the bezel is slightly bent forward and the back view supports this assertion. Normally something like this is caused by closing the screen/lid down while there is an object in the way, like a pen/pencil.
I am not suggesting this is what happened to you, but I will say what we would do to fix something like I observed from your photos. The top plastics, which hold the screen in place, would be replaced alone with the bezel plastic (cosmetic reason) that surrounds the LCD. The top plastics include the hinges that mount to the base of the system, which I believe is really what needs to be fixed. I do not believe glue is going to correct something like this.
If you decide to replace this part, you can contact our spare parts department at 1-800-372-3355. Good luck and let me know if you have any further questions.
Regards,
Richard B
