Trying to play Planetside and the game keeps crashing on a Dell Smartstep notebook Pen 4 2.0 GHz 256MB ram 32MB Ati Radeon Mobility video card. The game manufacturer doesn't support my card. I wanted to upgrade to an nVidia G Force 64 MB. I called Dell and they said don't do it, they can't guarantee the computer would work correctly and that the drivers won't work with the new card. Won't a new card come with drivers? Dell said the computer was manufactured a certain way at the factory. Is there a real risk in upgrading this card? Please help. Thanks.

no danger at all.
very easy to do yourself, but i guess Dell does have that fancy tech support

the new card will come with drivers, and yes, that 32MB card is getting out of date very quickly

Im surprised Planetside even plays on it

Please be polite about this in your responses to me!

I thought graphics gpu was hard wired to the motherboard on the notebooks.

I do not believe you can change the graphics on a notebook. I don't know of any that can be upgraded in the graphics department.

Could be wrong! But don't think I am. Someone else enlighten us.

Yes, it can be upgraded, that's why DELL gave an opinion on it, to NOT upgrade, but I disagree with that. No harm to do so, as you'll likly get better performance for your game.
Just make sure the drivers are up-to-date.
