What's the background - did the sound just suddenly stop? If so, Uninstall the entry in Device Manager, reboot and it will rebuild the software.

If the sound has never worked after install then you need the drivers from you computer manufacturers website.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

I have an optiplex 320. windows XP does not come with sound drivers for the hardware, so you will need to get them here if you reinstalled windows: http://www.dell.com/support/drivers...

remember: you need to select windows XP here even though it defaults to listing vista 32bit drivers. the drivers are under the 'audio' section.

on the other hand, if your sound suddenly stopped working, the problem could range from corrupt drivers all the way to a broken sound chip.

please remember to reply with results so we know whether a solution worked or not

I assume the whole computer has now stopped and that's why you never came back to this post.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks
