I have a Dell Inspiron 2500 notebook. The power cord is bent at the top where you plug it into the computer. Can I buy a different power adapter or do I have to buy one from directly from Dell?

You can use generic power adapters, you just have to check they have exactly the same output voltage, the same or higher output current & that the connector has the same polarity as the original. Try a company like CPC for this sort of thing. You might also try getting the adapter repaired if it's only the connector that's bent - a decent electronics tech should be able to help.
