Hey thank you guys for the help on this here is my post http://computing.net/hardware/wwwbo...

I was looking to replace the modem and where surfing ebay for my make and model and it posted a "PCTEL modem" not the Conexant v.92

So i then went on Dell's download site and found the driver and installed with not problems i then query the modem and it found and responsed.

Well in short: for an "error of 000005aa or unable to open comm port" You need to install the correct driver.......

I thought that Everest home or even SIW should give the correct driver to be installed! I was wrong in thinking that!

Thanks again for all the help.

PS: Do you have a way to find the correct drivers for hardware because Dell looked like they had three diference drivers for my model?

Use the Dell web tool.

Use the tag number.

Use the ven and dev numbers from the system properties on the modem.

I read it wrong and answer it wrong too. So get off my case you peanut.

Thanks jefro but used tag numbers still come to the same download page.

DAVEINCAPS didn't take the time to take the laptop apart.

Didn't realize it was a laptop. It's probably one of the 789T chipsets, but there were several of those--789T, 789T-C1, 789T-C, 789T-A. If everest or another diagnostic can tell you which it is, then it should be easy to find the drivers.

See the property for that in system properties panel. The ven and dev will tell you what it is. You look it up online to find the correct mfg and chipset.

I think system info from help and support pages will tell it also.

I read it wrong and answer it wrong too. So get off my case you peanut.
