Hi, I'm working on a dell latitude laptop where the CDROM will play audio CD's fine, BUT, it feezes up when I put in a data CD. As soon as I ejest the data disc, it performs correctly. I have tried several data CD's with no luck.
Are there any settings I can work with to get it to read Data CD's?
ThanksHopefully my advice will help you...Please post back with your results....thanks

Hi, I've toggled most of the controls also checked DMA, just a sec and I'll try that...nope, that didn't work either, any other ideas?

Ok, I nailed it down a bit.
The CDROM WILL read an XP installation disc, but will NOT read any other CDR Data discs that I've finalized on my PC. Those cdr's have all the latest AV, Spyware, Firewall, etc progs on them which save me mega time when working on a PC or laptop with ONLY a dialup capabilites....no ethernet, etc.Funny thing is...the XP CD is a copy of my origional that I burned as a backup....go figure.

I just tried that and nothing happened...it still froze up the PC

That's the only idea that I've come up with. I thought it might be a problem with autorun opening up the wrong process to handle the interupt.

Thanks for your suggestions. I sure appreciate it. I even tried burning another data CD on my other writing ptogram and still no dice.
So, I just finished cleaning and updating this laptop...EXTREMELY slow on dialup...LOL and that's about all I can do. The CDROM plays music fine (regular wav songs on a CD, factory and CDR) and also works when I put in the XP installation disc, so my client will be fine, hopefully later on he'll consider up-dating at least to XP Home.

I wonder if someone in the ME forum would have an idea. Probably worth a try.
