My daughter has a Dell Latitude C840 running Windows 2000 Professional. Each time we either shut down and reboot, put the computer into standby/hibernate, or even just close the lid and reopen it the screen resolution resets. We normally have it set to 1024 X 768. Now the kicker is when I go into the screen settings, to check, it is STILL on 1024X768 even though the screen size has changed (the viewable area shrinks to about 1/3rd the size and is in the middle, with a "blank" area around it. Each time, to fix this I'm forced to change the setting to a higher or lower resolution, accept that, then change it back to 1024X768. I'm totally confused what this could be! Also, I checked the power settings and what to do when the lid is closed, it is set to "nothing". Please help!

Go to the link below. Add the service tag where prompted. Download the graphics drivers (video) for Win2000 and install them. I recommend that you download ALL the drivers for any OS you expect to run on that laptop and burn them to CDR for ruture use.
