My D630 sometimes (but not always) wont hibernate and also sometimes won't go into standby - is one mode better than another?

I'm currently having the same problem with a D610 and it started recently(3-4 weeks ago) so I suspect a Windows Update. This happened about 2 years ago and then fixed itself......I have noticed that the unit WILL go into standby if I haven't logged into Windows but as soon as I log in the functionality stops.
