Hello One of my friends have given me a laptop. The model is Dell Latitude CPx J650GT (the HDD is empty). I am having a strange problem with the laptop. When I enter bios I come to page 1 of 7. The bios seems to be locked at page 1, I can't change pages and several keys doesn't work, the only thing that work's in bios is setting the time (there are some numbers I can't write, and the left & right arrowkeys don't work either). What could be the problem with the keyboard? Then I tried to install Win XP. When it comes to if I accept their terms I can't press f8. Have bios a password lock or something. And another problem is where is the cmos battery in the laptop. Please can someone help me out with this
I would recommend connecting an external keyboard to the laptop and seeing if you can access the BIOS pages. It seems the keys are preventing you from doing so. The keyboard could be damaged.
The CMOS battery is on the motherboard of the laptop. If you can access it w/o damaging anything, you could reset the CMOS settings (clearing CMOS) and the password will no longer be valid. Hope this helps.
With a external keyboard everything went ok but the keyboard on the laptop is new so it could not be damaged. Could the keyboard-connector on the motherboard be damaged? There are not one row of keys that don't work it seems to be here and there like F8, left and right arrow, 9 and so on.
I tried the laptop keyboard keys and Ifound out that o,l,b,n,.,-,9,space,f8,alt, lefat & right arrows doesn't work. I have tired 2 other keyboard with same result. I looked on the motherboards connector and I couldn't find something bad with it. But I think it must be the connector on the motherboard.
Did Coralin find a solution to his problem? Like him, my Dell Latitude CPx J laptop has faulty keys sometimes and the keyboard has already been replaced once!
