Hi,
Dell Latitude CPx H500GT. My floppy drive works fine when connected via cable to the parallel port. Problem is that when I try to use it in the modular drive bay,I get an error message that drive a: is not accessible. CDROM works fine in the bay. Tried another Dell fdd, same thing. Dell Control Center has appropriate box clicked to allow floppy drfive access in bay. Please help!

Hi Bill.
Isn't there software on the Dell called something like "Softex Bay Manager"?There may be an icon for it in the System Tray.
This Bay Manager software allows you to tell the computer you are removing or installing a bay device.
In the menu you click insert device and OK.
Then the computer acknowledges the device.
If it isn't in your System Tray, see if it is in your Control Panel.
My Softex Bay Manager is located in the Programs folder.
Take care,
Linda

HI Linda,
Thanks for your response. I do use the Softex Bay manager from my system tray. The perplexing part is that it recognizes the floppy drive, but when I try to access it, it tries, but then comes back with "drive A not accessible. Makes no difference whether I swap the drive in using the Bay manager, or the floppy drive is in from a cold start.
Any more suggestions?
Thanks, Bill
