Specs: Windows Vista
When I start it up, the 'uppercase letter' and the 'scroll lock' function buttons start blinking for a few seconds and then the laptop stops working. Nothing happens on the screen, no strange sounds, only the 2 leds blinking for a little while and then it dies.

You computer is over heating. It could be a failed CPU fan (they do go bad) or your heat sink is clogged. Try blowing it out with canned air and verify the CPU fan is spinning up when you turn it on.

I had onetime fixed someones computer where the heat sink was filled solid with dog hear. I had to remove it and was it at the sink to get it clean. (Don't do this unless you know what you are doing by the way. Removing the heat sink could cause damage and you must put down new thermal grease when reinstalling it.)
