Dell Laptop will not Startup

I have a Dell Inspiron 7000 laptop that will not startup. When I press and release the power button I hear a single click in the vicinity of the battery (even when the battery is removed and I am on AC)and the LEDs flash on the off but nothing else happens except the power LED stays lit. This all started when the laptop was left on overnight. Any ideas or suggestions are appreciated.

The best way to test it is to completely remove the battery. Disconnect the power adapter.
Now hold the power button down for two minutes (time it)
Then reconnect only the power adapter and try to boot up.
If you have the same problem then you may have a bad adapter. You will need to get it tested.

Hi Robbie, I tried your suggestions-N/G! The AC adapter has fully charged the battery so I suspect it is OK. Any other ideas? Thanks, Steve
