I have a dell 4150 that fell off of a table. The incedent tore the screen off. I replaced the hinge set and the data ribbon that was also severed. The computer works fine except the screen is very dark. Upon start up, the sceen becomes white then goes dark. would this be the inverter or the backlight? Which would be more apt to break from impact? is there a way a testing? I appreciate any help. Thanks.

The inverter should have taken the hit but a place to check would be the ribbon cable.

You already replaced the cable, but most likely the screen is shot. That kind of damage usually meant replacing them when I serviced Dell laptops. If it is out of warranty your least expensive option is eBay. I would suspect the display more than the inverter if it struck the floor.
Good luck

Richard
