Comment: I am having trouble with my Dell Latitude CPx laptop. I bought this laptop from Dell on Ebay about 4 months ago. It is refurbished and it has worked fine until now. When I press the power button the Power LIGHT stays on for about 5 seconds and then turns off. The computer does nothing after this. I'v tried using just the power cord, and then just the battery, but the same symptom occurs. My question is this: does the amount of time that the light stays on mean anything? I am thinking, on a desktop the BIOS tells you when there is a problem with beeps. Does the light on a laptop do the same thing? Any suggestions or advice are welcome. Thanks in advance.

Reply: (edit)Hi Ipari. Try holding the power button in for several seconds and then releasing it.
Maybe the laptop was accidently put into suspend or standby mode.
Take care,
Linda

Reply: (edit)Thanks for your advise. I've tried that but it does not make a difference, the power off still cuts off. Any other advise is welcome.

Reply: (edit)Check the RAM to make sure it is seated properly. Does your display make any visible change when you first power up? Were there any other strange occurances that happened prior to it not booting? Any additional info could be helpful.

Reply: (edit)Thanks for the input. The screen does not power up at all. I have played with the RAM as well but no luck. When the CD-ROM is inserted and when I press the power button it starts to make some noise (powers up, I guess) but stops after that 5 seconds. I think the motherboard has a problem. I don't think its fried but something is preventing the laptop from starting POST. As far as the last healthy day of the laptop, it was just working normally until I turned it on this morning. Any more ideas or should I start an auction on Ebay?
