Please can anyone advise me, where I can order a new backlight for my laptop. I bought it today, with a really dim screen, from a thrift shop. 486 DX4/100 nice screen, all working, 16 meg ram, 540 meg hard drive (LMAO) Windows 3.1 WOO HOO!

Anyways, jokes aside, I need the long miniature flourescent tube light for the screen! The one in it died. It's all that is wrong with it!

Please post any links (dell not very helpful as it is an old laptop!

Banned? Why did you say that? Anyway. No Dell have no listing for this laptop anymore.

Shame. Cant find out much. Got the thing in peices in front of me. Trying to identify the motherboard, and see if it can be overclocked. Any info would be real helpful!

If you have everything apart already, look for a type or model on the bulb. I find most of my specialty bulbs here:

Also, I wouldnt recommend overclocking a laptop even if it is possible. The spaces are too cramped and sufficient cooling is a major problem. You may also diminish the battery performance as well, overcloking usually means more power is consumed.

Good Luck.

You should be able to locate the model and number for it somewhere on the machine - maybe on the bottom, or perhaps on the plastic of the screen, at worst, the part names of the HDD and mobo. Looking for part by part with the Dell name might actually be your best bet.

You could also type that kind of info. into the www.google.com search engine. Here are a couple of other links too.

Found them. Its called a "cold cathode" tube.

They are $55 on this site. Not worth it. I will try to buy a shattered screen from ebay and take the light from it!

Haa haa. Well, one mans junk... as they say!
