Subject: Dell Laptop Memory Upgrade Problems
Comment:

I have purchased some RAM for an upgrade of my 64mb Dell Inspiron 7000 C400LT (Model no. PPI)

However, I have been unable to get it to work. My system still reports 64mb installed, and I am wondering whether or not the RAM is correct for my system.

I used the ordering system of a website in the UK, to which it chose me the following:

S128MDL0654
128MB Module for Dell Inspiron 7000 (Celeron 366/400MHz)
Transcend
311- 0654

Is this the correct memory for my system? I DO believe so, but if anyone has any ideas, GREATLY APPRECIATED. Am I doing something wrong?

I purchased 1 (one) memory module. I take it there's nothing wrong with this (i.e. I don't need 2 modules (as I believe you did about 2 years back).

Thanks all.

Profess

Here is a Dell site that gives information on what memory you need and how to install memory. It is chocked full of information.
Good Luck!

Thanks for the information relating to my problem with this.

Still not sure if I needed 2 modules or not, have contacted the company who sent me the modules, see what they say.

Still no reply from the company, but still no joy with the RAM. Used Dell diagnostics disk, nothing reports there is a total of 192mb in the computer.

A question for all techies (as I know nothing about hardware that much).
Do you need 2 SODIMM in order to work?

Thanks,

Profess.

Hi all,

ALL SORTED NOW...

After I emailed tech help of the supplier, they mentioned that I should NOT be able to see the gold fingers at the end of the RAM if it was installed properly...

However, as I could then I knew NOW that it wasn't. Also, BEFORE I did NOT insert the RAM at a 45 degree angle.

Done this now, ALL working fine (196mb of RAM for me on my laptop!)

Thanks all for guidance and help.

Profess.
