I was given a Dell Inspiron 3200 laptop.
PII 266MHz, 128 meg RAM, etc ... but I want to change the OS and have the laptop boot from a CD so I can install a different OS. Problem: It asks for the BIOS password. Does anyone know how to reset the BIOS or recover a password? Thanks!! Cliff

Reply: (edit)Have you been to the Dell support website? Generally, most any password can be bypassed by "clearing the bios" or as some call it the "cmos" If you can't figure out any other way, and can't find a manual or "how-to" at Dell, then remove the battery, see if there is a hidden reset button, and remove the bios battery.

Reply: (edit)This link has the info you are looking for. http://www.techspot.com/vb/topic18780-pg3.html There is a link in this thread that shows you how to dump the eeprom to another computer and recover the password. I personall have not tried it yet but plan to this weekend.
