For about 6 months, my lap top sporadically starts beeping about 3 times in a row. If I'm typing, it will beep and repeat whatever letters/words I was typing numerous times in the document, and then the keyboard letters freeze. I can delete, press ctrl/alt/del, etc, but cannot type anything until I restart the laptop. In the past, it would beep 3 times and only repeat the last few words I was typing 3 times. Now, it beeps about 3 or 4 times and continuously repeats the words/letters, making several rows. The beeping and freezing of the keyboard have also started happening when I'm not even typing, i.e. just trying to check e-mail. When this happens, the screen goes haywire, as if I've clicked on a bunch of links or icons and they all open up. For some reason, this seems to happen more when I'm using my lap top while it is sitting flat on a surface, especially a hard one (i.e. happens more when it's on a desk than when it's on my bed). If I have my lap top on my legs or some other way where the fan on the bottom is not covered, it doesn't do this.

Anyone have any ideas what the problem is?

Sounds like you answered you own question. I would say the laptop is overheating. Could be partially due to dust and lint in the intake areas. Check you manual for info on how to clean. There may also be settings to conserve energy, which can allow the computer to run cooler. You may not have those setting enabled.

Thanks. I was kind of wondering if that kind of thing could happen from overheating, but wanted to see what others would say.
