My inspiron 1545 screen broke and i was using an external dell monitor for 12 months all was ok until i had to reinstall vista and now my monitor will only run in vga mode. If i install the intel mobile 4 driver from the drivers disk then it will only show until it starts up windows then black screen. P>S> before it was reinstalled i had a box in middle of screen for 12 months saying something like gui intel mobile or similar i used to click this and monitor was fine.
You should be able to extend your display by pressing the Fn key and a key which looks like two monitors, one infront of the other. If you press these keys together then your display should extand to your external monitor.
Hi thanks for your quick response i tried fn key and f1 key but no joy i am using an external dell monitor and no dell pannel on laptop as its damaged now if i allow the gm45 display driver to run i get a black screen but if i change to vga my monitor works its as if any external monitor will not work if i use the gm45 intel
The problem you describe is very common - - Dell 1545 does not display on external monitor when the laptop screen is broken. I have never found a solution for this though it would be very helpful to diagnose other problems.
