Hello everyone, I am have a seriously annoying problem trying to install a Dell 968w printer to a Dell Vista Home Premium Laptop. Altogether I probably spent 10 hours on it and there was also two other people with me for about 3 of the 10 hours and they are pretty knowledgeable about computers.

First let me say that I installed the printer with no problems on my (old as hell) Sony Vaio Laptop with XP Home Edition with no problem. It even said that my laptop doesn't meet the required specs.

Okay so I installed the printer altogether about 6 times with still no luck. Everytime I try to printer it says communications not available. But I did find a way to print, but it is so retarded. Here's what i do, I click print and wait till it says communication not available. Then on that window I click the troubleshooting button, then I unplug the USB from the Laptop. Now I wait about 5 seconds with the troubleshooting window open, after the 5 seconds pass I X out the troubleshooting window and then plug the USB back in. Then I wait another 3 to 5 seconds and press continue printing. Voila it prints. But that is really dumb. What do you guys thing the problem is? A glitch in the OS?

Thanks in advanced.

Start by going through the steps you went through to install the printer.

I would suspect some fault in either the USB port, Cable of possibly in the USB controller on the motherboard
