OS: win xp pro
CPU/Ram: PIII 900/128
Comment:

I just bought a Dell inspirion 2500, it's a PIII 900 with 128 megs ram, I go to look at the laptop, I boot it up, I check all the specs, and it takes 10 minutes, and the laptop works great, I pay for it and I take it home, its in a case laying on the front seat of my car, so nothing will happen to it, I get home, plug it in and boot it up, I reinstall win xp pro as I like it better than xp home, well its on for say 45 minutes and its like the screen starts to go funny, almost like its in 16 colour mode instead of 24 bit, and while its like this the laptop freezes, after about a minute its back working fine....well this problem is getting worst, I try to turn it on and I know its booting up, but all I can see is vertical black/gray stripes about 1 inch wide, and some blue on top from the windows xp screen, I try booting it a dozen times and its the same thing, I plug in a monitor and its fine on there, well I put it away for the night and the next day I get I try to boot it up and it works fine, for 30 minutes and then back to the screwed up screen again, now I'm thinking the LCD is gone, but I can't understand, the screen when it is working, is perfect, any idea? I need this for school in the fall and I don't have lots of money to fix it

thats what I was thinking, untill I plugged in a monitor and it works 100% all the time, no screen defects at all, unless the lcd can overheat and I don't think that possible

If it were a bad TFT cable connection why would the system freeze? That would only affect the video and not the system.......

I have no idea what it is, if I knew what it was I wouldn't be asking, I can just rule out things, I don't want to get into replacing parts and finding out that its not the problem, and I do know a little about computers but not everything, Havn't the answers I've made, made sense?

don't know if this will help you...
i turned off the laptops, took out the batteries, turned them back on, turned them off, put the batteries back in, and turned them back on. i now have an image on 1/2 of them, and the other 1/2 is still not showing up. (currently, working on 15 laptops). suggestions?
