Comment:

I was given a dell dimension L400c computer with a
400mhz intel celeron CPU installed (socket 370). I want to
upgrade it to something faster.. I have a few questions on
that.

1) Will it take pentium 3 CPUs, or do i have to upgrade to
another celeron?
2) What is the fastest speed i can upgrade it to? P3 or
celeron..
3) What is the system bus speed on the motherboard (i
need to know to determine which cpu to get in terms of
bus,

Thanks

Tony

cpu voltage on celeron 500 and below is 2volts. when you go higher the CPUs are lower voltage (1.7v i think). i think some celeron 533 cpus do 2 volts and some do 1.7volts. so there might be possibility of a 533 as long as you get the right one - still not that much faster though

Have upgraded several Dell L400c computers in past and have one in front room for a youngster. There is no problem of going up to a 800mhz celeron P3 chip and two 256SDram memory cards for that unit. Makes a pretty sweety unit for beginner. Needs at least a 15gig hard drive though for Windows ME, which has most all of the board drivers and most of add-ons. Just keep it defraged and it will run longer than some of the newest units.
