My 4 yr old Dimension 8400 won't open the XP operating system. I shut down last night as I normally would, but noticed my optical mouse's light on several minutes after "shutting down". I turned on my monitor and saw no activity, no warnings of programs not responding, etc. so I depressed the computer's power button for a few seconds to cause a manual shutdown. Everything powered off. This morning, when I tried to fire up the system, I depressed the computer power button and all the typical sounds started, indicating the system was powering up. The optical mouse lit up but no activity occurred on the screen (other than the screen's own warning to "check the connection" so I assume that is working properly). I also tried to boot using my computer's XP Install Disk but nothing there either. Any suggestions?
