My friend has a Dell Dimension 8100. He's looking to max out the RAM in his machine. Unfortunately, his machine takes RDRAM.

Is there anywhere selling sticks of 512 that we could purchase for his machine that WON'T cost as much as a new computer would?

Thanks all.

Rambus MUST be installed in pairs. As colly pointed out, a single stick of 512MB goes for about $200

Actually does your friend actually need to max out it's memory? Its brand new and if it's not slow then I wouldn't bother till I actually need it, the price will have seriously by then

Dude, this is an OLD Dell, not a new one. RDRAM (RAMBUS) will not drop in price anytime soon

Actually you can edit on this forum. After you click on "Submit Follow Up", on the nexy page, it shows you what you printed and how it'll look. You can make changes there.

Better to run something other than XP with 128 RAM. To get it up to 512 (suggested for XP) you will have spent waaaaay too much!

If you have 128 MB then you actually have 2 X 64. I would leave this in and add a pair of SAMSUNG 256MB 184-Pin RDRAM (16bit) PC 800 Unbuffered System Memory Model MR16R1628EGO-CM8 - OEM from Newegg.com for $85.22 each or around $175 including shippping. You won't find anything cheaper.

Thanks all. I actually checked eBay, there's some RDRAM by Infinium being sold on there. I think that was the company... hmph.

I'm in the same situation and checked Newegg, but their compatability search declared they had nothing suitable for my 5 yr. old Dimension 8100 w/128 mbs. Will the Samsung stuff work in it, nonetheless? Dell has told me I must buy from them, which I doubt is true;guys in stores, however, say they don't carry what I need and I have to go thru Dell.
