I have a bit of a mystery on a Dell Dimension 5150. The problem it's having is that at random shutdowns and start ups. I was first informed about this issue back in May and could not find any issues with the PC and when the customer got it back, it worked fine for over a week with no random shutdowns and start ups.

Now when I received it again it did (once) shut down after about 20 min of being on. What happened is out of the blue the log off message says Windows is shutting down and it does for about 1 sec. then it boots back up for about 5-6 seconds and shuts down again, repeating the process but never making it to the bios display. This model does have diagnostic lights on the front to help troubleshoot issues but that did not help any because the lights blink at random with 1,3,4 then 3,4 then 2,4 then 1,2 and 3 before it attempts to restart again. There is no blinking amber light.

Here is what I did so far. I re-seated the ram chips, ran memtest 86 (passed), ran crystal disk info on the hdd (HDD good), replaced the cmos battery. So far the PC is running fine with no issues after being on for two days straight. The customer said that after the computer is off for a while it will work fine again for a week or more then act up.

With still so many possibilities, not sure what to replace. Has anyone else had this exact issue on this model?
