I have been doing readings online, and I have read that in order to replace the power supply in a Dell Computer you must use one made by them, or it could fry the computer. I recently installed a thermaltake TR2-470W in the computer (because I needed a new video card) anyways it works fine.
My question is could this cause problems down the road? Or since it is running fine does that mean there is nothing to worry about?

had proprietary parts but, maybe this

If your Dell required a proprietary PSU & you installed a standard PSU in it's place, the second you switched it on, *something* would have fried. Since that didn't happen, there should be nothing to worry about.
You should have gotten a better unit though, the +12v specs on that PSU are somewhat weak:
