Is this a new battery, or old battery? Flashing orange usually means the battery is bad.

See if there is a push button and diagnostic/charge lights ON THE BATTERY itself.

Remove the battery, push the button; if all LEDS light = battery is fully charged. No LEDs lit or only 1 LED lit = battery dead. Alternate LEDs lit (1 lit, 2 off, 3 lit, 4 off, 5 lit etc), means battery is bad or defective.

See the information at the bottom of this page (as the beautiful Dell folks did not enclose any battery information in their E6500 documentation):

- You could also have a charging issue on your motherboard (the charging circuit is not charging the battery). That requires a new motherboard.

- Your AC adapter is not working properly, if the laptop is not powering on when plugged into AC power.

- Chances are it's a bad battery though.

Just another stupid saying...
