I have a Dell C840 laptop and am trying to display composite A/V pictures from the A/V output of a Nikon 990 camera on the Dell screen via an EasyCap composite A/V to USB 2.0 adapter using EasyCap software, including Ulead VideoSoftware. The Dell only has a USB 1.1 input which cannot be upgraded to USB 2.0, therefore the software, although recognising the hardware does not show any display from the composite AV output from my camera. The camera A/V output is PAL, but can be changed to NTSC. The Dell does have an IEEE 1394 input.
Would an adapter cable from USB to IEEE 1394 suffice, and would the software recognise the EasyCap adapter hardware. I am an absolute beginner with pc's so don't make the answer too complicated!!! Any other suggestions would be appreciated, just as long as it does not involve too much money, as I am a pensioner on a limited budget.

You're gonna have to read thru the instructions/manual for your camera & the related software. Does it say USB 2.0 is required & USB 1.1 is NOT supported? Does it say firewire IS supported? If so, using the adapter is probably worth a shot, IF it's not too expensive.

To add to the above response I would try copying the files from the camera to a folder on the PC and then running the ULead software, pointing to the folder.
