I'm running several Dell Dimension 2400's in my small office and now I have a small problem. It's a small problem, but it's one of those small problems where everything that can go wrong... will. I'm trying to upgrade the RAM in these machines from 256 to 768.

Problem 1: Machines don't power on with the extra 512 in. No combinations work except the original 256.

Problem 2: BIOS reports current 256 RAM as being DDR 266... when the sticker clearly states DDR 333. Can DDR RAM clock down? If yes, why can't my new RAM clock down too?

Problem 3: Contrary to popular belief, money is NOT the root of all evil. It's Dell...

My MAIN question is, how do I get rid of that annoying DELL logo upon boot? I want to actually SEE my POST routine. I want to see what kind of motherboard/RAM/HDD etc. these PCs have!

I have searched HIGH and LOW for any settings in the BIOS that would enable me to rid myself of that damn Dell logo. Delete, tab, CTRL+S, F1 through F12, ESC... I'm out of ideas. It's not in the BIOS, and I've searched Google and Dell's unhelpful FAQs.

So, can anyone tell me how I can rid myself of that damn logo? And, why my new RAM won't clock down if it's too "fast" for the motherboard? As I've said before, I'm running Dell 2400 machines.

Hi,

The Dell logo is normally a BIOS setting. Enable Dell Splash screen or Dell logo at boot.

Whilst in BIOS also set Quick Boot to enable. This stops the memory sccan on boot and should allow your POST messages to be displayed.

Thanks for the response, but there is nothing in the BIOS regarding that Dell logo. Nothing in the "diagnostics" menu after pressing F12. And, the quick boot option does not affect the Dell logo either.

ram can usually run at slower speeds with no problem. eg. DDR333(pc2700) usually runs fine at DDR266(pc2100).
In my experience Dell computers are very picky on ram. you may well find that all your ram sticks run fine in another make computer of same spec but not in the Dell.

If you want to get rid of the logo, try downloading Tune-Up.

There are some options you can tinker with in there to get rid of it (I think) if the BIOS is giving you jack.
