I wasn't sure which section to post this in...

I am helping a friend with a laptop that has an admin bios password on it. The laptop has a cd-rom but no floppy disk (not that it matters since I can't boot to either). Just curious if anyone has had any luck resetting the bios password without having to purchase a program. I've had the laptop 1/2 apart looking for the cmos battery but I hear they can be fun to find.

Any idea's would be great

p.s. My friend who bought it has tried contacting the seller for 3 months trying to get a transfer of ownership, but once they got the money they stopped replying to email, etc

Removing and the replacing the Coin Battery or Resetting CMOS jumper are the only methods I use in clearing unknown BIOS Password. If you can post the Exact Model of your Dell Laptop computer with the problem we might be able to provide some tip.

Most likely your friend bought a HOT Laptop. You wont be able to change the password unless you contact DELL and convince them he is the new owner. By the way, why does he need to get into BIOS?

It's not so much that he needs into the BIOS, but the password comes up when you turn the computer on. When I get home I can post the model number.

I suggest that you access the dell Support site with your PC serial number and look for User Manual to open the Laptop and disconnect the Coin-cell battery for about 10-20 seconds to Clear CMOS and then reconnect and reboot and see.
I found the Manual for Lattitude D610 in my search and LattitudeD600 may be similar.

Thanks for the Link M.

I was able to change the latd610 to latd600 in the path and it brought up the manual for the d600.

I will try this when I get home tonight.

The d610 has a Coin-Cell battery that would make this very easy but the d600 does not have a coin-cell battery.

Took the laptop apart completely last night. Could not find any battery's that I didn't already know about.

This site has a manual that says how to do it http://www.dellpassword.net.ms/
or this site http://www.theonlypcdoctor.com/dell/dl-dell.htm

but they both want you to buy it, which I might end up doing.

If anyone has any other suggestions please post them. Thanks
