Specs: Windows XP, 2.8 intel
i purchased a dell optiplex directly from dell outlet (off corporate lease) but it had only 512k of ram. it booted to windows xp pro just fine. i took the ram out and installed 2 - 2gb sticks - and now at post it gives 6 beeps and hangs - black screen - no blinking hrd drive and no video dispaly at all. can not get in to bios or otherwise troubleshoot anything. any suggestions? from the various websites it seems like a possible ram issue??? any reliable ram resellers that are reasonable (good price) and guarantee that the ram will work? any assistance appreciated. thank you, robert

The 745 has diagnostic lights which should pinpoint the problem.

Put the original ram (512MB not Kb) back in and visit

Check whether the ram you have matches the spec advised by crucial.

Is it 6 beeps? or 4 + 2 beeps? or 3 + 2 + 1 beeps?

Obviously if the system was working fine up until you changed the RAM, the RAM is the problem. Either you didn't seat it properly in the RAM slots or it's incompatible with your system. It would help if you'd list the make/model/speed & specs of the new RAM.

Many XP machines (depending on how old, the make, and the price level) did not support 2GB modules but only supported up to 1GB modules (as many slots as provided), but check all specs.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.
