Don't be in a rush to discard the HDD when you get a Dell 2000-0146 error message. I nearly made that mistake but found that a simple run of the Windows XP Installation CD (choosing Repair) solved my Latitude D630's refusal to start up/looping problem.
We don't advice people to discard their hdd's until hdd manufacture diagnostic tool says it is bad.
