I have a dell inspiron 5150 that im trying to sell for parts (the mobo is busted) but i want to erase the hard drive first. Ive seen laptop to ide hard drive addapters that allow you to view the contents of the hard drive on a desktop, but can I format the hard drive too with these cables? If not, how should I go about doing this?

Hi, Yes, you can do anything to the Laptop HD that you could do to any HD with the adaptor. You could also do it in the Laptop if you can boot to DOS. 98 boot disk would do as would MADBOOT a free download. There are lot's of other ways.
Good Luck, Jim
