Specs: Windows 95
I'm looking for a MS-DOS bootable utility to remove ez-bios from my hitachi dk212a-81 hard drive. I'm trying remove the current Windows 95 operating System from my Canon Innova Book 360CD laptop, but the partition doesn't remove. Windows 95 only runs in safe mode command prompt only. How can I remove ez-bios to use Partition magic? fdisk /mbr doesn't work on the drive as it gives read and data errors on the drive. Scandisk also doesn't work.

Apparently the HDD is larger than your laptop supports? That's the only reason I think of that EZ-BIOS would be used. You need to boot off the disc that was used to install EZ-BIOS, then run the uninstaller.

yes, the bios has a 528mb limit on hard drive size, while the hard drive is a 810mb. I'm looking for compatible utility to zero out the drive. I'm replaacing the drive and want to make sure nothing is on there when I dispose of it.

Start up the PC and when you get the ez bios message 'press CTRL to boot from floppy' (or whatever it says) put a floppy bootdisk in and boot from there. Then FDISK, FORMAT or whatever you want to do using the commands on the floppy disk.

Or if you're going to junk the drive, just take a hammer to it.

Oh, and running FDISK/MBR after booting from the bootdisk (not the hard drive) should remove the ez bios info in the mbr making the drive unreadable. Boot directly from the floppy drive without ezbios even loading.

For some odd reason sometimes you have to run fdisk/mbr twice.
