Default Beep repeatedly intermittently

April 28, 2011 at 12:49:05
Specs: Windows 7
Inexplicably, I hear the "Default Beep" repeated every minute or so. Nothing pops-up, and there is no other noticeable consequence aside from behind annoying and stressful (at least worrisome).

What is happening? Help?

You may be hearing a warning that your CPU has reached a preset temperature that is approaching the shut down temperature.

This can be caused by a build up of dust/dirt inside the case. You can verify the temperatures by installing a utility to monitor them. Download and install HWMonitor from the link below. Post the temperatures after you start hearing the beeps.

The best method to clean out the case is to use either a compressor or compressed canned air. Canned air is sold at office supply stores.

Thanks for you reply!

This is a brand new Sony VAIO, I'm skeptical that dust build up could be an issue yet. Also the beeping starts early and that also makes me think that heat is not the issue.
However, I have no other leads so will follow this up.

Some programs like answering machine type will beep every so often. Try booting into Safe Mode (F8 at start up) to see if it still does it. That may tell us if the beeps are about hardware or software. How about a low battery notice?
