Dead system after taking moden out

picked up a system from a friend, he took the modem card oout and put the case back on .......... now there is no power getting to the system, I tested the power coad, it's fine, I changed the power supply and still nothing not a light not a hummm, nothing. How do a furthertest the system

Did he take all pecautions with respect to static electricity? He could have ruined your system. You could try to disconnect everything in the system (HD and floppy take out all cards) and see if the motherboard at least does something. Good luck!!

No and Yes I have removed everything and it-don't-work I don't get a reading with a muti tester from the power switch connectors on the motherboard, I thing he fried the motherboard!

I doubt it.
Make sure the Vid card, RAM and CPU are inserted well... infact, take them out and put them back... try just 1 stick of RAM at 1st.
Try plugging in the Power supply and then turn on the system.... make sure that none of the connectors for PWR/reset/LED's got disconnected from the motherboard.

Unplug the ATX connecter and turn on the power switch on the PSU and check to see if you can find a wire with 5.0 volts going to it. Turn off power and reconnect ATX to mobo and backprobe the connecter you should have 5 and 3.3 volts and your other power connecters should have a 12 and 5 volt wire on them. If not the mobo or PSU is bad. If you cant get 5 volts from the atx connecter with it unplugged your PSU is bad
