Ok so, about 3 weeks ago i put together a new pc, bought all new parts and assembled. the parts are as follows:
Intel P4 3.0 Ghz
Kingston 512 mb ram
matsonic MS9087c socket 478 motherboard
Nvidia Geforce 6800oc
Belkin wireless card
Western digital 120 gb hd sataSo it worked great for about 3 weeks and then i had to move the pc to a different desk, when i plugged it back in and was going to use it, it made a high pitched beep then a lower one and so on. So i turned it off waited a while and turned it back on again. This time, no beeps, all the fans turn on and its getting power nothing on the screen though. It doesnt get to the startup or anything not even the bios beep. Im puzzled as to why it would all of a sudden do this, nothing was changed except for that it was unplugged when it was off. I didnt even disconnect any cables or anything.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Riley

When you moved it it is possible a card or cable or ram chip has become slightly dislodged. Open it up and re-seat everything. Leave the CPU as is. It is unlikely that would have moved but check the fan connection.

1long, 2 short Video adapter error Either video adapter is bad or is not seated properly. Also, check to ensure the monitor cable is connected properly. Repeating (endless loop) Memory error Check for improperly seated or missing memory. 1long, 3short No video card or bad video RAM Reseat or replace the video card. High frequency beeps while running Overheated CPU Check the CPU fan for proper operation. Check the case for proper air flow. Repeating High/Low CPU Either the CPU is not seated properly or the CPU is damaged. May also be due to excess heat. Check the CPU fan or BIOS settings for proper fan speed.

My money would be on the heatsink coming adrift due to poor fit. High low usually cpu bad fit or h/sink refit or cpu damaged

so i was thinkin i would just buy one of those post (power on system tester or something like that ) cards to determine the problem.. would that work to find the problem? I have already tried reseating all the cards and memory, but havent looked at the processor.
Feedback on this idea?
If not how can you tell about a faulty or fried processor? I dont currently have a computer that supports a socket 478 chip to test so...thanks for the help,
riley

i had a board and chip with simular problem ,except no bios beeps.I took the chip to a pc repair outlet and they tested it for free. Luckily it was the board at fault & got a replacement form the on line vendor.I would remove the cpu & heatsink and refit . If that does not fix the problem then you will need to get the chip checked to eliminate it. I believe the high low beep you were getting is a indication of h/sink or cpu faulty or bad fit & would not power up again until at least you have reseated

I need help. I just recently purchased, and built a comp with
AMD 64 3.4ghz cpu
Gigabyte raid K8 triton series nforce3 mobo
1024 corsair xms
radeon 9800 pro
and about one week ago i has a usb mic plugged into the frontal usb i went to run upstairs and clumsily ( i hope i spelled that right) yabked the usb out sideway with my foot. I proceeded to then call techsupport from wehrei got the pc cyberpowerinc.com in case you people wanted to know they said to unplug the usb from the mobo so it wouldnt short. I could not follow the cables to where they lead, and just let everythingbeby itself everything ran fine, then oneusb port in the back didnt work i thought this was the beginning to the mobo shorting but it stayed that way for 3 hours i went to hockey cam back and the screen was black, and the comp shut off. I took the comp to local computer gaming warehouse, they ran diagnostics tests and it was indeed the mobo. I have one question are other parts weakened, by this is so what could be the possible things to come in the future. Plz HElpThanks, Steve

Sorry to hear that, you will have to just hope for the best. you might have got away with it.
