Hi Guys
Is my motherboard dead? I plug the power in and get a twitch on all the fans and then the system refuses to boot even using the power switch until I unplug it and plug it back in. Then i get the same quick spin of the fans and again, nothing. The board has onboard graphics so I have unplugged the discreet card and same problem occurs. I have also tried an E6550 with the same result.

Too much trouble to list your specs?

Terribly sorry I'm a little p****** off as you can imagine. My specs are:
CPU: Q6600
RAM: 2GB DDR2 800
GPU: ATI 4870
Mobo: MSI G33M-SI
PSU: Seasonic S12II-500WResponse Number 3 Reply:
Disconnect all the drives and pull all the cards including the RAM. If it comes up and you hear error beeps, that's a good sign. Start plugging stuff back in, starting with the RAM. Pulling the plug each time, of course.
If it doesn't come up with everything disconnected, try another power supply.

Is this a new build? Did you benchtest the hardware before installing it in the case?

Thanks aegis, have pulled everything besides CPU and same problem. Unfortunately i do not have another PSU to test it with.

The system has been up and running for almost a year with no problems. Additions have been the Q6600 and 4870 a while ago.

"I have also tried an E6550 with the same result." Did you thoroughly remove the old thermal paste/grease before applying the new
thermal paste/grease and HS/F ?Response Number 8 Reply:
Motherboard or power supply, it's usually best to try replacing the power supply first. The CPU is the least likely to be bad.

You could also see the web pages on how to diag a power supply if you have a good digital voltmeter and a paper clip.

Thanks guys.
kx5m2g: I removed it thoroughly using Akasa TIM-Clean, which I swear by for cleaning goop off.
aegis: Thanks for the advice. I have dug out the invoice for the order I originally made and it looks like the board and power supply are still under warranty until the 13th of November so I might just return them both at the same time.
jefro: Thanks for the link, I haven't had to diag a PSU in years and forgot all about the paperclip. I haven't got a voltmeter handy but I can get a hold of one. For now I'll just try it with no load.
