Hi there. I tried to get an old system running yesterday, that had been sitting inside its case, off to the side for around 4 months.

I don't really know why I wanted to use it...I just did. Anyway, when I tried to switch it on the fans began to spin, but the monitor remained blank and it didn't POST. At this I decided to just try using another graphics card, but to no avail. I tried 3 different graphics cards in the finish up, but still nothing happened.

I the tried to use the clear CMOS jumper to reset the BIOS, but again nothing appeared onscreen. I also tried using the jumper for loading the PC with fail-safe BIOS settings. Still nothing.

I tested the CPU and RAM in another old motherboard at a friends house and they worked fine.

I've also now discovered a jumper that, apparently, will try to recover BIOS settings on startup from a floppy drive if left open. I haven't tried it as of yet, but since the PC wasn't even accessing any hardware yesterday, I'm sceptical.

The thing is, the PC hasn't been touched or opened since it was left aside, yet now it's non-functional.

Oh yeah, replaced the CMOS battery too, no change.

Any ideas as to what I could do?

Did you try switching out your monitor? I know you said you didn't post, so I will assume that your fans spin up but there are no beeps from the system speaker, right? If that's so, it's prob not your monitor, but never hurts to check. I don't think it's your P.Supply, because your fans are spinning up. Even if the P. Supply was faulty, you would crash or get BSODs, but you would get something on the monitor. Only thing left would be your video card or the mobo. Since you get no beeps, I doubt it's the V.Card, because you would still post even if a bad video card, you just wouldn't see anything. So that, unfortunately, leaves only the mobo. Hope I'm wrong.

verify that the speaker is functioning and connected properly. otherwise it can be misleading. does it make any beeps at all?

Try reseating the motherboard power connector.

Disconnect all the drives and pull all the cards and see if you get the POST beep.

Tried all this already.

Every single piece of hardware works fine on another motherboard (borrowed from a friend), but not on this one.

It's completely dead. Oh well.

A good mobo is the Shuttle AK 39N; AGP8X, 266FSB, onboard 6-channel sound (good sound), takes AMD xp processors. Fast board, rock-solid. $60 at Newegg.com
