I'm working on a Gateway LC, 500SE Deluxe (nothing Deluxe about this PC that's for sure :).

Anyway, customer said PC just stopped turning on? MB is on-board everything, Model # MP4M-23AGM, Socket 7.

Green light is on on the MB. PS appears to be fine, but I tried 2 other ATX PS's (both known to be good) and it didn't change anything.

I pulled the RAM and tried 2 other working sticks separately in each DIMM socket - no change.

I changed the CMOS battery - no change.

So what's left - probably the CPU? or can it still be the MB?

I don't have any socket 7 CPU's laying around to test the MB with, but if I can borrow one I'll try to do so next week. Do you think there's a chance that it's the CPU?

Could it be the MB if the green power light is on on the MB (only when it's plugged in, of course)?

If not one of these, what else might it be? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks again!!

Are you getting any beep codes? If so, follow this link to the single web page I set up for the 3 most major BIOS makers with a list of each manufacturers beep codes that will tell you what the diagnosed error is.

I'm testing this machine on a monitor that is known to be good. Customer only brought me their tower.

I tried 2 other known ATX working PS's and nothing changed.

No beep code. It doesn't even attempt to power on. I guess the power button itself could be defective?

Well, anyway, I checked Gateway's website and their tower's warranty expires 11/17/2003 so I told them they'd be better off just taking this to Gateway (assuming that Gateway will fix it free of charge for them).

Thanks anyway for the responses.

Have you tried another video card? Obviously, you already tried almost everything else, therefore, if the new (or used) video card doesn't work your down to either mobo or cpu. If when you power up and you hear noises like the harddrive kicking in or spinning, but still no video, even with a working card, then your cpu is fried. I you don't hear any start-up noises, then your mobo is fried. Remember, the cpu is the brains, but without the mobo allowing juice to your devices (because it's dead)it's useless. In my experience even if a cpu you is dead the drives will still spin-up.
