I have recently been having problems with my radeon 9700 pro. I've been getting graphical glitches (walls that look like patchwork, floors with bright yellow speckles e.t.c) while using basically any application which uses 3D accelleration.

I have had this problem before, only it went away by itself after about a week. I was told at the time that the problem was most likely my graphics card overheating, although that did not seem to explain why the graphical glitches were still there. I used this card in my old computer, and the first time it happened was on my old PC.

My question is, if overheating is the problem, why doesn't it fix itself after it cools down? Last time it was about a week between the problem appearing and disapearing.

YES, I have the latest drivers, so please don't suggest that or I may have to kill you (everyone says that) :)

Thanks in advance.

Maybe it's the PSU...what's the total wattage & how many amps are on the +12v rail?

How close to other devices is the card? If it is an AGP shouldn't be a problem, if it is a PCI card and it's too close to other devices(sound card or Modem) it could cause a problem.

None of the above. It's AGP, i've removed it and blown all the dust off of the fan (there was quite a lot of it actually) and why would it be a PSU issue? I've had the problem before when I was using a different PSU, but why would that make the graphics go all glitchy?

I guess the title is misleading, it isn't "dead" so much as playing up.

"...before when I was using a different PSU, but why would that make the graphics go all glitchy" cuz newer agp cards use a lot of power, and becuase when a vid card start 3d stuff it uses a bit more, and some og the newer ones I have seen have multiple modes to use verying levels of power and acceleration, and have an extra power connector right on the card.
(I have a gf fx5600xt that will not run proper without this hooked up and at least a good chunk of 12v amps) thats why.
is this only when you run any 3d app? does it do it on ANY app? how bout dxdiag tests...

mmmffhhhmmm..mmmhhmmff!
