I hope this isn't a silly question but could anyone tell me what is the advantage of DDR2. If my FSB is 800MHz then isnt dual PC3200 perfect for me. Why would I pay nearly double for DDR2 400MHZ or 533MHz modules.
Many Thanx

Too tired to break things down for you, so I'll just post a couple of links.
0. DDR or DDR2.
1. DDR or DDR2.

Thanks for the pointer.
To summarise - It seems to me that my suspicions are confirmed. At this point in time with FSBs at a maximum of 800Mhz DDR2 is wasted on the average user. In fact in some circumstances it is slower than DDR due to its higher latency. DDR2 does provide scope for overclockers at the present time however its true potential will not be realised until chipsets and processors with greater bandwidth are available. This is my novice interpretation anyway
What I can't understand is why OEMs like DELL are eagerly putting DDR2 into all but their budget systems when the cost/performance ratio is so poor. Is intel pushing them into it?

Well there are already some 1066FSB compatible boards on the market and with 1066FSB cpu's to follow in line with Intel's roadmap, it is only a matter of time before DDR2 will become mainstream and just like you noticed Dell's already using DDR2 on all their Socket 775 Prescott based desktops.
