what they used to be, for example 1066 Mhz 2GB is

This is the second post about memory price. The first post posted October 30 is here...

I will comment for both. The price of memory is dependent on what type of RAM the FAB is geared up to manufacture. Each time a new type of RAM is introduced there is a curve where initially the newer RAM is more expensive than the then mainstream RAM type.
Eventually the price curves intersect and from then on the price of the older type of RAM will be higher than the newer type. This has been the case since DDR was introduced and even before that.
The same principles apply to the ramping up of the speeds in the same type of RAM. The reasons are the same. What most manufacturers are geared up to make will be cheaper. Basic laws of supply and demand with economy of scale thrown in.
So, don't wait for the RAM prices of DDR2 to fall because they probably won't.

You never know...with Black Friday a few weeks away, there *may* be some major sales with rebates. Then again, it may be for DDR3 rather than DDR2. Last year at this time 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR2-800 was selling for about $20.

Memory had always been a what's hot and what's not price point. As the sticks get past what OEM's tend to use the price seems to go up for the aftermarket folks.
I paid $140 employee price for 2 Meg one time. Thought I got a deal since it had been $4000 list price.Playing to the angels

Yes newer ram normally does cause last generation ram to go up in price, because more ram companies are putting their main production focus on the newer generation ram while at that same time phasing out production of the last generation ram, but that isn't the case here. DDR3 ram has also shot up in price as well too, which tells me that the production of ram in general has shot up in price for some reason and it's not just the typical cause of last generation of ram being phased out.

I haven't followed RAM prices lately but if DDR3 has also gone up then it could be just a temporary thing.

This seems to be the reason why ram prices have sky rocketed across the board.

so its the reccesion? and i think its really annoying tbh, i used
to be able to pick u 4GBs of DDR2 1066 for £45 now its £100
but ive noticed DDR3 coming down in price over here, especially
OCZ, theyll sell you 6GB ddr3 1600Mhz for £100 amazing
really.ANTEC 300 4 FANS AND COLD CATHODES

I don't know how DDR3 prices are over there but here in the U.S. they have shot up in price, just like DDR2. Even the cheapest DDR3 1066 4gb kit has shot up a good 15 to 20 dollars more then what it was a couple months ago.
